Health Research Organisations in Australia

Research Organisations in Australia vary in size from small groups of researchers, universities to large institutes and centres. Health and Medical Research is mainly funded by the Government via various schemes and grants, such as the NHMRC, ARC, and CRC programmes. State and local governments operate in a similar manner, and contribute largely to hospital based research. Not-for-profit institutes fund research in specific areas such as particular diseases. Business and Industry research forms a large portion of health research, notably among Pharmaceutical companies.

Note:

  • The lists consists of only those Organisations that directly undertake research. Agencies that commission research, or those conducting limited analytics, aggregate data and/or publish reports are not included.
  • While we have attempted to produce a comprehensive list, we are aware that the compilation below is not complete. If you know of an organization or want to add to this list, please send us the details using the contact form on the website and we will update this page.
  • Laboratory research, such as development of pharmaceuticals, or aetiology of specific diseases, and so on or not included.
  • Some institutes (The Menzies Foundation for example) appear multiple times in the list. This is because they are large collaborative research bodies, involving researchers from multiple universities, agencies, and/or government bodies.
